We are also excited to offer two HW Summer Camps on the Upper School Campus - open to ALL interested athletes! Whether you are interested in joining the Spirit Program or have a love for cheer/dance, we invite you to join us for one or both weeks - everyone is welcome!

The HW Summer Camp is a great way for new and returning students to gain knowledge in both cheer and dance and expose athletes as to what the HW Spirit Program entails. We teach actual material used throughout the season, along with new material each day. Technique, tumbling and conditioning classes will also be taught with fun in between! Athletes will leave with an abundance of knowledge in both dance and cheer and have dances/performances/skills to practice all year.
Summer practices for athletes invited to join the team will be held August 1-3, 7-11, 14-17 at the Upper School. Our first football game is August 18th.
Our season runs from August-March. Practice times are Tue/Thurs 4-7pm at the Upper School. We attend and perform at all football games, home games for both boys and girls basketball, as well as any other event we are invited to.

Equestrian
|
Students with a desire to compete in hunter/jumper/equitation and/or dressage at any level are invited to ride for Harvard-Westlake. There are no tryouts for this team. Requirements include access to a horse and a willingness to partake in four IEL shows per year.

Summer 2023: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Harvard-Westlake Fencing camps are a unique weeklong experience. The camps will promote fun, while you learn the fundamental skills of fencing. Learning fencing will help you develop balance, concentration, coordination, tactical skills, teamwork, discipline, and self-esteem. Participants will learn proper footwork, execution of fencing actions, and recreational bouting. All equipment will be provided, including equipment for electronic scoring. A great experience you should not miss this summer! Campers should come to camp dressed to be active and in athletic shoes. No equipment is necessary.

Golf (Boys)
|
Boys interested in playing Varsity golf are expected to work on their game consistently throughout the summer and fall through regular practice, junior tournaments and instruction from golf professionals. JV players are expected to practice and play to gain course experience throughout the summer and begin to work with a golf professional for lessons if they are not already doing so. Varsity golf will begin meeting in the fall semester for practice, conditioning, and mental game work. Tryouts for Varsity and JV will begin toward the end of the fall semester and will finish up into the beginning of the spring semester. All golfers interested in being a part of Varsity or JV golf should work on their game year-round through practice, instruction, course play and tournaments.
Girls interested in joining Varsity Golf for 23/24 can tryout during the following weeks:

All tryout rounds will be afternoon 9 hole rounds at Encino or Balboa Golf Courses and there will be 2-3 tryout days weeks. Golfers trying out can participate in as many rounds as they would like.
Girls interested in joining JV Golf for 23/24 can tryout beginning the week of August 21.
Both programs have out of season team expectations to assist with continual improvement.

Lacrosse
|
Harvard-Westlake will be offering a summer camp for 3-12th graders from July 11th-15th. All current lacrosse players should be active in summer recreational lacrosse or other Harvard-Westlake sports.
HW varsity lacrosse players will be lifting in the weight room on HW upper campus. The team will be lifting every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30-1:30pm, starting June 21st.

There will be an informational team meeting held September 20, at 6:00pm via zoom. The Softball class will begin October 2nd and will be held every Monday and Wednesday.

Swimmers planning to swim on the Middle School, JV or Varsity teams in 2023-2024 are encouraged to swim throughout the summer. The Wolverine Swim Camp is encouraged for any middle school or JV swimmers. The camps will take place on June 20th through June 23rd and June 26th through June 30th at the Copses Family Pool on the HW Upper School campus. Varsity swimmers should be enrolled with a USA Swimming club program. LA Swim Club is HW’s home club and you can contact Jason Schwarz at jschwarz@hw.com. In addition, there are clubs throughout Southern California that are also good options. Again, contact Coach Jason Schwarz at jschwarz@hw.com for recommendations. Fall training classes for high school students begin when school resumes. The middle school swim season will start the first or second week of school.

Student athletes interested in playing team tennis are required to train, develop and compete in various camps, clinics and tournaments over the summer. Incoming tournament players are invited to join TheClub Training Program run by Coach Hardt, his staff, and Mariano Puerta, a former #9 ranked player in the world. The Club is an ATP Tour style of training with the best coaches in the city, UTR 10-14 rated hitting partners, and a fitness trainer. Club runs all summer 3-6pm at Weddington Tennis. We strongly encourage that a mixture of new incoming tennis players and the current middle school and junior varsity tennis players join the last 2 Wolverine tennis camps offered which will be run by Bo Hardt and his coaching staff.
Our winter training season begins in November on Tuesday’s and Thursdays and is required for all 9th graders hoping to make the roster. Training season runs up until tryouts begin in December. Try-outs for ALL the 9th-12th grade players interested in Girls Tennis will start week of Aug. 14th at Weddington Golf & Tennis Club (2-5pm). They will run the entire week before school starts. You must attend ALL try-out days / there will be NO Make-Up tryout days.
