The Kutler Center supports Harvard-Westlake's experiential learning opportunities and global education programs. These programs allow students to experience interdisciplinary concepts in action, develop empathy, and expand cultural competence. These educational exploration opportunities include:
- HW Inc., a student-run summer entrepreneurship boot camp
- HW Venture, an organization that inspires student entrepreneurs to solve societal problems
- Short-term student exchanges with WLSA, an international coalition of schools
- Gap year programs supported by the Brownstein and Service Year Fellowships
- Directed study, specialized courses that focus on current issues and other topics beyond the standard curriculum (for example, public education in America, the Covid-19 pandemic, and beginning Italian)
- Capstone projects, year-long senior research projects culminating in a presentation, art project, performance, or paper
- Independent study, a structured learning experience for seniors outside of traditional coursework (for example, scientific research projects, historical research papers, creative writing, and the production of plays and films)
Students interested in these programs can contact Jim Patterson, Director of the Kutler Center.
