Academic Counseling and Support

Deans provide academic and personal support throughout the Harvard-Westlake journey. Students can also get academic assistance from the learning centers on both campuses.

Middle school deans

Middle School Deans

There are seven grade‑level deans on the middle school campus to provide support, stability, and continuity to students and act as a resource for both students and parents. Two seventh grade deans work exclusively with that class, helping students and their families acclimate to their new school. The two deans who work with students in the eighth grade stay with the class through ninth grade. Because the size of the ninth grade class increases with the admission of new students, a third dean is dedicated to working on the ninth grade team.

Upper school Deans

Upper School Deans

Over their three years at the upper school, students get help from their deans with selecting and scheduling classes, meeting academic challenges, coping with personal issues, and selecting and applying to colleges. College counseling involves individualized guidance on college selection and applications. Deans also provide support on personal matters, which may include referring students who need additional assistance to the school chaplain, psychologist, and counselors. Learning Center

The Learning Center provides students with resources and opportunities to achieve academic success as well as to improve skills such as reading, writing, note taking, test taking, and study strategies—skills necessary for effective learning.

The Learning Center is open to all students from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. After-hours use is available by appointment.

To learn more about the learning center on each campus, visit the Middle School Learning page and the Upper School Learning page.
