The Américas Award is given in recognition of U.S. works of fiction, poetry, folklore, or selected non-fiction (from picture books to works for young adults) published in the previous year in English or Spanish that authentically and engagingly portray Latin America, the Carribean, or Latinos in the United States. By combining both and linking the Americas, the award reaches beyond geographic borders, as well as multicultural – international boundaries, focusing instead upon cultural heritages within the hemisphere. The award is sponsored by the national Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs (CLASP).
Hip, Hip, Hooray! It's Monsoon Day! was also recognized as a 2007 Southwest Book of the Year in the Children's category. Roni's first book, My Nana's Remedies, was a ForeWord magazine Book of the Year award finalist in 2002.
Hip, Hip, Hooray! It's Monsoon Day! is available online. To order, click here. If you have any questions about ordering multiple or autographed copies, you can e-mail Roni. Roni plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book to the Alumni Scholar Endowment at Harvard-Westlake School.
