Pat McCabe '74, head of the lower school at New Roads School in Santa Monica, was the inaugural speaker in the Alumni Speaker Series on Monday, September 22. Pat spoke to middle-school students about his decision to leave a 23-year career in sports marketing to move into a career in education and philanthropy.
The Alumni Speaker Series was conceived in 2007, "to introduce the Harvard-Westlake student body to the outstanding professional and charitable accomplishments of the school’s alumni through a regular speaker series. The series would include alumni from diverse occupations, highlighting individuals whose stories and experiences would challenge students to consider their own character and potential."

On the evening of September 16, more than 170 alumni, parents and parents of alumni gathered at Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant, at The Grove in Los Angeles, to visit with Tom Hudnut and hear a special, highly anticipated presentation by Rick Caruso '76, who is the president and chief executive officer of Caruso Affiliated, and founder of The Grove and The Americana (in Glendale).
The presentation included Caruso describing his vision and philosophy on real estate, and was followed by an engaging question-and-answer session with the crowd.
The Office of Advancement extends its sincerest thanks to Rick Caruso '76 for the time he made to share his knowledge and insights with the Harvard-Westlake community.
